The Sierra Club North Jersey Group presents “Protecting Endangered Species” with speaker Julia Millan Shaw, who is the Philadelphia Metro Outreach Representative for Defenders of Wildlife. The program will take place on September 23 at 7:00 PM at the River Vale Public Library, 412 River Vale Road, River Vale, New Jersey.
Working across New Jersey and Pennsylvania, Ms. Shaw engages with Defenders of Wildlife members and wildlife conservationists to protect imperiled species. On the ground in New Jersey, Ms. Shaw works with volunteers on stewardship programs, to provide a local voice to decision makers and to promote hands on experiences with wildlife.
According to John Fitzpatrick in a piece in The New York Times last week, “The Endangered Species Act is by far the most powerful piece of environmental legislation ever passed. Today, the act continues to be a source of on-the-ground success — a steadfast reminder that timely conservation pays off.” Ms. Shaw will extoll the benefits of preserving this Act for the future of all species.
Founded in 1947, Defenders of Wildlife is a major national conservation organization focused solely on wildlife and habitat conservation and the safeguarding of biodiversity. We protect and restore imperiled species throughout North America by transforming policies and institutions and promoting innovative solutions – and this approach makes a lasting difference for wildlife and its habitat.
The program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
