Hillsdale receives grant to help fund repair of Beechwood Park trail

The Hillsdale Environmental Commission has received a grant to help fund the restoration of a nature trail that has fallen into disrepair.

The walkway, which runs through an 11-acre section of Beechwood Park, has issues the commission feels present safety concerns for those who use it for jogging and walking, including felled trees and a partially broken wooden boardwalk. Within the last five years, Hillsdale has experienced several severe storms, which, commission members say, have contributed to the pathway’s current state.

Despite the issues, the trail remains a popular spot for dog walkers and recreational walkers, so the commission is hoping to bring the area back into a safer condition.

In April, the commission was awarded $1,000 through the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions (ANJEC) to move forward with its proposal to clean up the passive park, according to Commission Chairwoman Meredith Kates.
